Most people arrive because something hurts and it has stopped being something they can ignore. It might be recent, or it might have been there for years.
I qualified as a massage technician in 2010 and completed Level 5 Soft Tissue and Remedial Therapy in 2019. I started this practice in 2023.
A few months later I was injured myself and could not work for six months. My own rehabilitation is still going, and it has taught me more than any course. Recovery asks you to accept where you are before you can move on from it, and it is far easier when someone explains what is actually happening.
That is how I work. I explain as I go, I adjust to the person in front of me, and I would rather give you three things to do at home than book you in for ten sessions you do not need.

Some problems build slowly, from how you work, train or sleep. Others start with one moment that never quite settled. Either way, it is worth having it looked at properly. If what is affecting you is not on the list, please ask by sending me a message in the contact form below.
The most common reasons people come to see me:
A short form, then a proper conversation about what hurts, when it started, how you sleep and what your days ask of your body.To give time for this, first appointments run about 15 minutes longer.
I test movement where it helps, and explain what I am testing and why. The sore spot is often not the cause, so I look at how you move before I put hands on anything.
Hands-on work, chosen for what I have found and adjusted as we go. I tell you what I am doing and why, so nothing comes as a surprise.
You will know what to expect over the next day or two and what will help. Rest, a magnesium bath, and two or three exercises if they suit you.
No two people arrive with the same problem, so no two sessions are the same. I choose from a range of techniques based on your symptoms, your movement and what you are trying to get back to.
The core of most sessions. Slow, focused work through muscle and connective tissue, using soft tissue release, neuromuscular technique and muscle energy technique. Used for long-standing tightness, restricted movement and pain that has not settled on its own, whether that came from training, from an injury, or from doing something entirely ordinary.

Slower, firmer work through the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Suited to persistent tightness and restricted movement that lighter work has not shifted. Pressure is matched to what is useful rather than to what you can put up with, and it is adjusted as we go.

A gentle, rhythmic technique that works with the natural movement of lymphatic fluid. It is used where appropriate to help with feelings of heaviness or congestion, and it is usually combined with other work rather than used on its own.

Specially designed cups create gentle suction over an area, lifting the skin and the tissue underneath. Used within a wider treatment to ease muscular tension, encourage circulation and support more comfortable movement. Silicone cups are used where a moving technique suits the area better.

The purpose of treatment is the same: to get you out of pain, moving more freely, and back to whatever you stopped being able to do.
Kinesiology taping and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation, sometimes called scraping, may also be used within a session.
Movement rehabilitation is available on request.
Sessions come in 30-minute blocks, up to a maximum of 90 minutes. I do not usually offer longer than that, because in my experience there is nothing to be gained by going beyond 90 minutes. A second session will do more for you.
Payment is taken after the treatment, by cash or bank transfer.
No. Most people arrive knowing something hurts and not much else. Working out what is going on is part of the first session.
For a first appointment I usually suggest 30 minutes. It is enough for me to see how you respond and how much there is to work with, and I will advise on longer sessions from there.
Something you can move in. You will not need to undress beyond what you are comfortable with, and you will be covered throughout.
It varies from person to person. Some discomfort is normal in this kind of work, but I adjust the pressure so that it stays manageable and useful. Treatment that leaves your nervous system stressed is not doing its job, so tell me and I will change what I am doing.
It depends on the person, how long the issue has been there and how your body responds. Something recent might take one or two sessions. Something long-standing can take up to six. Posture-related and chronic problems can take longer again. I will tell you honestly what I think as we go, including if I think you would be better off seeing someone else.
Usually a small number of exercises chosen for you, and sometimes a resistance band or a similar tool. If you are sore afterwards, a bath with magnesium flakes and some rest. I would rather give you two or three things you will actually do than a long list you will not.
Yes. Let me know about any recent injury or surgery, anything you are currently being treated for, and anything you take that affects bruising or bleeding. It changes how I work, and occasionally it means I will suggest you speak to your GP before we start.
I use plain oils, usually sweet almond or grapeseed. Sweet almond is a nut oil. If you have any allergy or sensitivity, please tell me before your appointment so we can talk it through and I can do my best to accommodate it. Please do not assume it can be worked around without discussing it with me first.
Yes, from the second trimester. Let me know when you get in touch so the room is set up properly before you arrive.
Cambridge, CB1. There is parking available. I will send you the full address once your appointment is confirmed.
Send me a message with a little about what is going on and how soon you would like to be seen. I will come back to you with what I think and when I can see you.
I am with clients during the day, so I do not take calls. If you would rather talk first, leave your number in your message and I will call you back.
